Maundy Thursday

Covid-19:

Following guidance from the Church of England and the Department of Health

ALL church services are cancelled until further notice.

Sadly, our church buildings must remain closed for now.

Please see the "Covid-19 Our churches online" section of our website for some resources to help you pray and worship at home and to keep you in touch with our family of the church.

You might like to read the scripture passages set for today:

Psalm 116:1, 10-17

John 13:1-17, 31b-35 (Jesus washes his disciples' feet)

The word Maundy may come from the Latin "Mandatum" - which means commandment.

This refers to the commandment that Jesus gave to his disciples while washing their feet shortly before the events of Good Friday.

'A new commandment I give you. Love one another.
As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
By this everyone will know that you are my disciples'

Collect:

Almighty and everlasting God,
who in your tender love towards the human race
sent your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ
to take upon him our flesh
and to suffer death upon the cross:
grant that we may follow the example of his patience and humility,
and also be made partakers of his resurrection;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
