The Corona virus (Covid-19) pandemic is affecting many aspects of our lives and the situation is still evolving.

Based on advice from the Department of Health and the Church of England, we may now open our church buildings for personal prayer.

Not all churches will be open and visitors are asked to follow carefully the instructions on display at the church entrance.

Hand sanitiser will be provided and visitors are requested to bring and wear face covering.

Churches open regularly are:

Monday (9am - 1pm) St Mary, Gate Helmsley
Tuesday (10am - 5pm) St Peter, Upper Helmsley
Wednesday (11am - 6pm) St Mary, Sand Hutton
Thursday (2pm - 6pm) St Mary, Gate Helmsley
Saturday (10am - 5pm) St Peter, Upper Helmsley
Sunday (11am - 6pm) St Mary, Sand Hutton

To allow 72 hours between openings, times may be altered if there has been a Sunday service or, for example, a funeral in the church

Other churches in the Benefice may open on request - please contact the appropriate Churchwarden for information

We can also now hold services in our churches, though there are limitations - we may not sing, share hymn books or Bibles. Orders of service will be provided but we ask that you take them with you when you leave and bring them when you next attend. Hand washing/sanitising, face coverings and social distancing rules must be observed.

Check the Calendar to find out where and when services are to be held.

The following events are still cancelled:

  • Play & Pray - all sessions in church buildings until further notice
  • Benefice choir practices

Messy Church events are continuing - with activity bags delivered to families who then meet online, using 'Zoom'

Do check our website regularly as the guidance may change.

United in the family of God we continue to invite you to join us at 10am each Sunday for a short online service, led by Revd. Chris Wingfield, our Rector. Go to 'Our churches online' for more information.

If you know of anyone in your neighbourhood who might need practical or pastoral help then do contact a member of the Ministry Team or one of the Churchwardens.

From the Home page, check out 'Our churches online' for more resources and for upliftting stories from around the Benefice.

In the Calendar you will find the scripture references for the days when we would have held services and you might like to read these as you set aside some time for prayer and reflection. Below are some prayers that you may wish to use:

For the Christian community

We are not people of fear:
we are people of courage.
We are not people who protect our own safety:
we are people who protect our neighbours’ safety.
We are not people of greed:
we are people of generosity.
We are your people God,
giving and loving,
wherever we are,
whatever it costs
For as long as it takes
wherever you call us.

They are set out so that you can read them as they are
or perhaps cut into separate prayers to use each day:
